Here’s a way to avoid some of the “snag ups” while brim fishing; tie your fly on a jighook.  This is a traditional wet fly tied on a 1/100 oz jighook

1. the jig- 1/100 oz jighook

2.ingredients

hen feather

leech yarn

mono thread

3.  take fluff from the feather to make tail; tail as long as hook shank.

tie in tail, then short piece of leech yarn

wind yarn to head of fly creating body that is slimmer at the tail and larger near the head.

4.  select webby hen feather; tie in right behind the head; make two wraps of feather, pulling fibers to the rear as you wrap; tie off; clip excess feather; secure thread with hitches and a little sally’s .  youre done

Yellow Bass from Caddo Lake https://gbfly.com/yellow-bass-from-caddo-lake/ Tue, 29 May 2012 02:34:07 +0000 https://gbfly.com/?p=424 Caddo Lake is the largest natural lake in Texas. Located on the Texas/Louisiana border it is one of the finest fishing lakes in Texas. You can almost always find something biting on Caddo. I am fortunate to have Henry Carter as my long-time friend and fishing partner. Henry was born and raised in Uncertain and knows the lake about as good as anyone. He has taught me a lot about the lake and locating fish.
White bass, yellow bass, and black bass are abundant on the lake as are redear, bluegill, and goggle-eye. White and black crappie are in abundance, and chain pickeral are plentiful in the water filled with vegetation. It is possible to fish caddo and catch 8 or more different species of fish during the outing.

Lake Athens Brim and Bass https://gbfly.com/lake-athens-brim-and-bass/ Tue, 29 May 2012 02:23:40 +0000 https://gbfly.com/?p=419 Lake Athens, located about 10 miles from my home, is my favorite lake for brim and bass fishing. It has a good population of large bluegill, including the copper-nose. There are some large red-ear, or “government brim,” also. Black bass are abundant and because of its close proximity to the Texas Freshwater Fish museum and hatchery, the game fish officials keep it well stocked. My personal best largemouth was a 10 lb 10 oz. fish taken in 1984. It very possible to catch a 4,5 or 6 pounder on any given outing and 14 to 16 inch fish are very numerous.
